A book to study and study. A true masterpiece of revelation underpinned by the Word

This book brings together our Hebraic roots with Christology in a way no other author has done before. Being a theologian, a mystic, a philosopher and an historian, one sees how the author blends these expertises together as a tapestry. God always has withheld knowledge to man requiring maturity obedience and intimacy before revelation and the Bible is a code book of His to study not read.
What does one learn about God and His creation of everything as well as the Heavens ? That we as men are at the fulcrum of all His plans. That we need to purify ourselves as we ascend the mountain. No anger, no fear, understanding our significance and insignificance in the big picture. No spirit of offence.That the Kingdom of God and His heavens are in our heart. Numerology and the binary system as well as the constellations, tribes of Israel and the twelve original apostles play an important part in the decoding. So much meat in this book and confirmation to some, conviction to others. He has made his Heavenly Father very proud with this part one of the trilogy. Cannot wait for book two.

Phenomenal book. No other like it, describing the heavenly structures and how we interact with them. It helped me understand things in my own life I've struggled with, especially as a firstborn son, and things I'm currently encountering and dealing with. Really helped me to understand the why of the process I've been going through and understand where I was at in the heavenly dimensions at the time. If you enjoy the deep, cutting edge things of God, and desire to walk as a King, Priest, and manifested Som of God, this book is for you.

Authoritative edition, but overpriced

Based on the Riverside Chaucer, this edition is the critical text of Chaucer's *Canterbury Tales.* It is accompanied by glosses of the Middle English at the bottom of the page, a useful glossary, and explanatory notes that guide the reader to further criticism. All of the above make it a good trustworthy teaching text as well as a resource for the serious amateur reader who wants to get to know Chaucer's most famous poem in its own language.

The price of the book, however, is a scandal. I teach Chaucer, and I'm embarrassed to assign a flimsy paperback like this to my students, expecting them to pay $55 for it. If perchance someone from Houghton Mifflin ever happens to read this review, please revisit the question of how you price textbooks like this one. Next time around I'm planning to use the Norton Critical edition; it may not have all twenty-four tales (it has fifteen), but the glosses are better, and it also includes a rich offering of primary contexts (Boccaccio, Petrarch, the Romance of the Rose, etc.) and criticism. And it costs less than $15.

PreSchool-Grade 1-Bertie just loves everything that adults consider dirty. He picks up candy from the street and boogers from his nose. He hunts for slugs and worms and pees on the flowers along with his cat. All this is performed to constant admonishments from those around him, "No, Bertie! That's dirty, Bertie!" He learns the hard way to stop most of his bad habits with one exception, picking his nose. The text is uninspired and the illustrations too broadly cartoonish and unattractive. Those looking for a good read about bad behavior would be better served by David Shannon's eponymous tales (Scholastic).

Fantastic Illustrations!

I spotted this book on the shelf of a bookstore in Greenwich, England largely due to the illustrations rather than just the content. I bought it for my then two-year-old son while we were living in London. Of course I suspected what others have confirmed in their reviews, namely that it initially taught him about some dirty habits rather than moving him away from them. But that was short-term and with repeated reading he soon learned not to______, or ______, or eat _____ and ______.

Still, we both did find it hilarious and over a year later, he's still enjoying this one. And in the long run he doesn't "wee in the flower bed", or "pick boogies from his nose", and he never eats them, so I think one can still argue that the book works. As others have written, he does love repeating "No, Bertie that's dirty Bertie!".

This year on a return trip, I managed to find another book illustrated by David Roberts at the Tate Modern Museum Shop - Cinderella (an Art Deco rendition) and it's also a great story with a modern twist.

I hope more of his books will be sold here in the US.

tickles the funny bone in kids

My 6,4 and 2 year old all love this book. They think it is hilarious. They love to shout out "No Bertie, that's dirty Bertie" . I thought it may have been a little young for my 6 year old but I think the "oooh yuck factor" won him over. He liked it so much he couldn't wait to take it to school so his teacher could read it to the class. It makes everyone giggle and I recommend it highly , so do my kids!

Not my cup of tea

I purchased this book because it was a bargain book (only $5.99) and I thought it might have a lesson for my daughter about not eating or touching yucky things. For me, I think some of the references (picking "boogers" and "eating boogers") and illustrations (Bertie and the cat "peeing" in the flower bed) are inappropriate. The book basically gives kids new ideas. When I was finished reading the book to my daughter, she proceeded to stick her finger in her nose and say "Look mom!" I would have returned the book but my daughter ripped one of the pages shortly after we read it. I also thought about donating it to the library but would have to do so anonymously because I wouldn't want my name associated with it.

An Inside Look Into How Conceited James Franco Really Is!

There's a picture of James Franco with a flaccid rubber penis stuck to his face. No, really... there is. And in case you miss it the first time, it's shown over and over again, in different settings... like he legitimately adhered the meat knuckle to his face and wore it around all day. How ironic. It's referenced throughout the book as "dicknose." I'm convinced that the sole purpose of this book is that damn penis picture... the other 200-some pages are just filler.

Honestly, here's what I think happened: someone (not Franco) bought a cheap camera (to achieve that "faux vintage" feel), and proceeded to stop by each and every household featured on the TLC "Hoarders" show. This rogue artist then photographed the junk piles and picked the lousiest shots -- haphazard clusters of children's toys, dirty bed sheets, and paint-stained school chairs -- and uploaded them to Adobe Illustrator. Then someone -- still not James Franco -- went all crazy marking them up with random words and phrases like "Gucci" or "Eff You." Finally, James Franco attended a gallery opening somewhere and got his name attached to the "project" (is this a "project?") and donated pictures of his penis nose and... well, then this book -- I'm sorry, I mean "boomerang" -- came about. Oh... and something about William Faulkner in Paris. Yeah...

I was impressed with the quality of the book. The content...eh..The pictures have a Instagram feel to them. and most of the text is scribbled on by no other than James Franco!.. If you're looking to actually read about the exhibit...don't bother if you're looking to own a bit of art by James Franco then by all means get it. Fair warning it's most definitely a "rated R" book and not for the younger fans.

Why did I even take a look at this? Well, it wasn't my copy, and I admit that the novelty that is James Franco did cause me to give him another chance after Palo Alto. I liked him as an actor...I genuinely had respect for him after seeing him in "Freaks and Geeks," but his forays into publishing coupled with very poor reaction to course failure have destroyed my positive perception of him. I know that bringing up the outside factors are not necessarily appropriate in terms of a book review, but with Franco...it does seem to be what he is about...he has created a Franco brand, and this book unfortunately seems to be the latest installation in that line of products, a line of products that is growing increasingly disappointing. My advice...wait for a used copy.

I've been implementing Microsoft Dynamics GP since 1998 and was given a copy of this book to review.

Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 Implementation is a great resource for all levels of expertise. I found that her book thoroughly covered implementation from beginning to end. She covers not only the job of implementing the software but also how to plan before and after implementation including what kind of training should be considered. There are many helpful hints that you won’t find in any of the documentation manuals. Even the most experienced implementer will find something they can learn from. I’ve been implementing Dynamics GP since version 2 and found some helpful suggestions that I had not thought of before. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for a comprehensive resource to help with their Microsoft Dynamics GP implementations.

Packt Publishing gave me a copy of this book to review and I have purchased previous Microsoft Dynamics GP books from Packt Publishing.

This is a very good book for someone to be able to understand what is needed to implement Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 and to finish the installation and have Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 up and running.

I liked that it told you how Microsoft Dynamics GP is architected and things you need to consider before you start your implementation. The book had the right amount of graphics ( screen shots ) to help you follow along and the forums and blogs at the end are good to have as a complement to the detail in the book.

Victoria is an accomplished and certified Microsoft Most Valuable Partner for Microsoft Dynamics GP and I constantly refer to her website when I have questions to be answered in GP.

The Poet and the Activist

Aasmaani can`t let go of her history: fourteen years ago her mother, Samina Akram, a political activist, disappeared, assumed dead. Samina was the ardent follower of the Poet, Nazim, whose work reflected the injustices and excesses of the Pakistani government through various stages of social and political upheaval, civil war, repression and religious fanaticism. Aasmaani cannot, or will not, release her mother, a woman who moved in and out of the young girl's life, following the Poet into exile, living nearby when he was imprisoned.

Now in her 30's, Aasmaani has begun work at a cable television network, where she is introduced to the handsome son of a famous retired actress, Shenaz Saeed. The actress is about to return to the screen in a cable soap opera. Another face from Aasmaani's past, Saeed was formerly a close friend of Samina`s, especially in the difficult years after the Poet's death. When the actress passes along a letter received from an anonymous fan, Aasmaani is shocked to find it written in the secret code used by her mother and the Poet. She is soon obsessed with the letters, translating and authenticating details, searching for remnants of truth: "He was still alive. Oh, dear God, he was still alive."

The novel works on two levels, the Poet's role reflecting the ills of a society in transition and a young woman's urgent need to unburden herself of lifetime of grief for a lost mother and father-figure. The novel speaks to the power of words in an age of repression, the character's actions cast against the turbulent history of Pakistan since its inception. The Poet is beloved because he dares tell the truth, a metaphor for democracy, holding society responsible for its actions. Samina is just as powerful in her role as an advocate for women's rights, her passion and integrity a valuable weapon against injustice.

Aasmaani is in an untenable position as the daughter of such a woman, torn between the need for her mother and belief in the cause, always sharing her Samina, either with the people or the Poet. Aasmaani is fragile for most of her life, but this rite of passage calls her to recognize her true heritage, her own identity: "Sometimes I feel like I've spent my whole life missing Mama." How does a daughter not resent living in the shadow of her mother's greatness and find peace with the memories she has left? Now Aasmaani is desperate to prove one of them alive, clinging to possibility.

In the end, I am conflicted about this novel. I persevered through the author's lengthy political discourses and the esoteric dialog of the Poet and his lover, trusting the integrity of the characters, even the stubborn, if formidable Aasmaani, who exhausts everyone who loves her. Her psychological distance remains palpable, inaccessible. Aasmaani walks with the gods, refusing to acknowledge their humanity or her own. She has infinite passion for the Poet and the Activist, but no compassion, protected in the ivory tower of her intellect. Shamsie's protagonist has no tolerance for the flawed or the ordinary, yet the story's facile resolution is duplicitous, an author's conceit. Luan Gaines/2005.

Plastic soap opera hidden behind a sometimes sparkling facade

"Broken Verses" has been a very ambivalent read for me. Hoping for a serious glimpse into contemporary life in Pakistan, I soon realized I was thrown into the arms of a selfish narrator whom I never came to trust and like throughout the whole novel. The plot touches on serious themes as loss of a beloved person, family relations, womens' rights, religion, politics, the contemporary history of Pakistan, but continues to turn them into a soap opera on its own, soon enough, while the protagonist of the novel, Aasmaani, keeps pointing out and ridiculing the wooden thought and behaviour patterns of everyone she is encountering throughout the novel, including herself, ironically. She seems too smart and detached for her own good, as some other reader has pointed out earlier. If that is what the author intended the readers to understand, that people in the rich, privileged and melodramatic world of her protagonist seem not able to behave freely and independently as characters, for whatever reason, she does succeeded and I should be giving her three or four stars instead of two, for her eloquent choice of language, sometimes original handling of poetry and the occasional interesting observations she provides on different themes. As a plot, though, the story doesn't have much to offer, for a lack of development, and is poorly holding together. I felt most characters, if not all to be very plastic, designed as if to fit the cast of a TV series and hardly likeable, with the exception of Aasmaani's father and his wife, perhaps, who show traces of real people, if just by not being overtly present in the story. I was hoping for the novel to end with a surprise that made one rethink its entire plot, characters and construction, but instead my fears came true and it just got a lot worse. The soap opera theme within the story had indistinguishably incorporated what was left of reality.
(By the way, wasn't the *surprise moment* of the story way too predictable? Agatha wouldn't have liked it. The craving for love may make the protagonist blind, but not the reader.)

Literature and a good story

It took me over a week to read this book, twice of what I'd normally have taken. This is because I'd linger over a phrase, a paragraph and often go back and read the whole page all over again. I stretched out the reading to savour the experience. I don't remember the last time I wanted to do that with a book.

The story of Aasmaani Inquilab is interesting enough. If the story moves at a slightly slower pace than one is used to in the current fare, it is more than made up for by how beautifully language is used. Kamila Shamsie makes an art out of writing as well as story-telling with 'Broken Verses' and excels in both.

This book accompanies an excellent You Tube Video Series

This is an older book and there don't seem to be any new copies around, so why did I buy it instead of a more current Russian Textbook? Because, I have already done the latter but afterwards I discovered a series on YouTube called "Russian World". It's an on-going series of 30 minute lessons and the Lady uses this textbook. After trying other Russian textbooks (Live from Russia and some others) and even having a live teacher I still struggled. I've learned more watching the YouTube Series than I ever learned in class. You can watch the series without this textbook, but if you can get it, it's much better! Book arrived in great condition.
