About the Author
Joey Yap is the founder of the Mastery Academy of Chinese Metaphysics, a global organisation devoted to the teaching of Feng Shui, BaZi, Qi Men Dun Jia, Mian Xiang and other Chinese Metaphysics subjects. He is also the Chief Consultant of Joey Yap Consulting Group, an international consulting firm specialising in Feng Shui and Chinese Astrology services.

Joey Yap first began learning Chinese Metaphysics from masters in the field when he was fifteen. Despite having graduated with a Commerce degree in Accounting, Joey never became an accountant. Tribulation Force is the second installment in the Left Behind series. The books are written in a consecutive storyline following the lives of Buck, Ray, Chloe, Rabbi Ben-Judah and many others you will come to know as the story unfolds. LaHaye and Jenkins make a captivating novel out of the end-times prophecies found in the Bible. You won't find a more graphic and intense action adventure series than LEFT BEHIND - TRIBULATION FORCE. I was given the set of the first four in the series for Christmas 99. I had all four devoured by the time New Years was over. Since then, I've read 5 and 6. Number 7 is due out in May 2000. I can't wait! Tribulation Force is a group of everyday people who find themselves in an extraordinary situation: The rapture has occurred and they are Left Behind. You will be entranced with haunting experiences of those left behind and how they deal with their pain and move forward in their lives. This is a must read for every believer! Even if you're not a believer, you'll enjoy the book! It is well written, enthralling, and FUN!

BOOK TWO: TRIBULATION FORCE

This successful follow-up to the runaway bestseller "Left Behind" continues the story of a group of new Christians trying to keep the faith in a virtually de-Christianized world following the miraculous Rapture. As Nicolae Carpathia continues his rise to power behind a facade of peace and reconciliation, will even America dare to oppose him? And will the Tribulation Force be able to stay under the Antichrist's radar even as Rayford Steele and Buck Williams find themselves drawn deeper and deeper into his malevolent web? Exciting and extraordinarily well thought out, "Tribulation Force" is both fun and thoughtful and inspiring as well. Some criticize the authors for injecting a heavy dose of romance into the story with this book, but in fact the burgeoning love between Chloe Steele and Buck is handled particularly well and it's not as if Christians are universally called to celibacy. God is the father of love and saw fit to put the first couple together, after all. Yes, Christians need love too! Theologically the authors stay in tune with modern Evangelicals, but in my opinion even Christians from other churches can still derive a lot of pleasure and satisfaction from this moving saga. A great book on its own terms and a compelling lead-in to the next entry in the series, "Nicolae," which promises to be even more exciting. Highly recommended!

Great 2nd book in this suspenseful series!

I read the first book in this series after finding it on my bookshelf where it has been "hiding" for many years. As I thought I would give it a read, I was held captive by not only the characters but the story and plot twists; this 2nd book is a great read and a quick one!

About the Author
Jason Fulford is a photographer and cofounder of the non-profit publisher J&L Books. He has lectured at more than a dozen art schools and universities and is a contributing editor to Blind Spot magazine. Fulford’s photographs have been featured in Harper’s, the New York Times Magazine, Time, Blind Spot, Aperture, and on book jackets for Don DeLillo, John Updike, Bertrand Russell, Jorge Luis Borges, Terry Eagleton, Ernest Hemingway, and Richard Ford. He is a 2014 Guggenheim fellow, and his published books include Sunbird (2000), Crushed (2003), Raising Frogs for $$$ (2006), The Mushroom Collector (2010) and Hotel Oracle (2013).

Gregory Halpern received a BA in history and literature from Harvard University and an MFA from California College of the Arts. His third book of photographs, entitled A, is a photographic ramble through the streets of the American Rust Belt. His other books include Omaha Sketchbook and Harvard Works Because We Do. In 2014 he was the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship. He currently teaches at the Rochester Institute of Technology.

USE YOUR IMAGINATION WITH SOME GUIDANCE

This is an excellent source of thoughtful photographic anecdotes, some stories and a bunch of assignments of many thought-provoking types.

No matter what level of photography you operate at, analog or digital, professional or not, I believe you'll benefit from this excellent sourcebook. You simply pick and choose the ones you want to take a shot at. It's not a novel. You don't need to read it cover to cover one chapter after the previous chapter. I read various assignments at random, thought about them, made a few notes and when I was off shooting on my own, reviewed my notes and thoughts to expand on the assignments and created some interesting results.

Some people here have questioned the fact this work doesn't contain photos. It doesn't need to nor do I suspect it was ever supposed to. Simply stated, it doesn't lead by example but rather stimulates your artistic curiosity, urging you to think about the assignments the contributors offer in short, concise form;. To embellish them or not is up to the reader and then go on to craft your own photographs. You learn by your own examples and critiquing your own work, deciding what YOU like and don't like about a particular photograph of yours.

You can do that individually or perhaps in small groups. Photography afterall, is an intensely personal pursuit. While it's not uncommon for some to try and duplicate someone elses work that you liked, all you learn from that experience is how to duplicate rather than producing original work. And while that's certainly appropriate in learning things like lighting, it doesn't help you grow in terms of conceptualization.

The suggestions used to spark creativity and conceptualization here are diverse and I found also quite interesting. I also enjoyed mulling them over in my off hours. It's a nice portable and fun piece of work, one I highly recommend. I've been in this business for 37 years. If you've gotten into a creative rut it will help liberate you. If you're not, it will still help expand your photographic horizons, maybe see things better and liberate your creativity in ways that you've perhaps never thought of. It also doesn't try and sell you anything. To me, those qualities are priceless and well-worth the $20 bucks. It also gives you the opportunity to support Aperture.

This is not going to be of help for most commercial photographers...I've noticed the lowest reviews are by folks who are looking to improve technical skills. I can imagine this to be a great resource for any photographer feeling stuck creatively (or those who need a good laugh). Some of my friends/photo heroes have been generous and thoughtful enough to share their successful assignments or strategies to get out of a foto-funk. So far in browsing, I already read 3 great entries that I would have NEVER thought of, even after a decade of teaching. Great collection, thanks JF and GH!

Scanning this book and using small memo stickers for pages I want to come back to when I get to the last assignment.

They are some wonderful ideas and you can't help but come up with many more as you read them. There is plenty of space to add notes as I have as you go along.

If your willing to put in the time the ideas within will keep you busy.

About the Author
A. W. Tozer (1897-1963) was an American Christian pastor, preacher, author, magazine editor, Bible conference speaker, and spiritual mentor. For his work, he received two honorary doctorate degrees. Among the more than 40 books that he authored, at least two are regarded as Christian classics: The Pursuit of God and The Knowledge of the Holy. His books impress on the reader the possibility and necessity for a deeper relationship with God. Living a simple and non-materialistic lifestyle, he and his wife, Ada Cecelia Pfautz, never owned a car, preferring bus and train travel. Even after becoming a well-known Christian author, Tozer signed away much of his royalties to those who were in need. Tozer had seven children, six boys and one girl. He was buried in Ellet Cemetery, Akron, Ohio, with a simple epitaph marking his grave: "A. W. Tozer - A Man of God." Prayer was of vital personal importance for Tozer. His preaching as well as his writings were but extensions of his prayer life. He had the ability to make his listeners face themselves in the light of what God was saying to them.

Prepare to have your faith challenged and life shaken!

This book is probably the most spirit filled and guided work I've read in a long time. You can not help but hear the voice of God calling you to a deeper relationship with Him as you read this amazing classic. From begining to end each page is an impassioned plea for the reader to abandon "comfortable Christianity" in order to truly know God as He desires to be known. You can see right away that truly Mr. Tozer wrote this book on his knees. I found myself challenged to look at my own faith in Christ and what I should be doing with that faith in every chapter. Sometimes with weeping and confessing and always compelled to deep times of prayer and renewel in God's presence. The chapter entitled "The Blessedness of Possesing Nothing" should be required reading for anyone confessing Christ as their Lord. I was totally blown away and my life with Christ and my own pursuit of God has been forever enriched. I have read this book over and over and shared much of it with friends and family. If you are "stuck" in you walk with the Lord, let the Spirit of God use this book to shake you loose and move you onward and upward.

A Book Saturated with God's Presence!

This is one of a few books I've read that, upon reading it, actually manifested God's presence. In line with the teaching of the book, God impressed upon me his love and his desire for a more intimate relationship. I broke into tears. Few books have had that impact. The chapter entitled "The Blessedness of Possessing Nothing" is a profound call to absolute simplicity and abandonment to God who owns everything you may think you "possess", including yourself! Surrender it all to God and see what miracles will be wrought for His glory. Let God possess you! For those who want other recommendations, try "The Christian's Secret to a Happy Life" by Hannah Whitall Smith, "A Testament of Devotion" by Thomas Kelly, "Abandonment to Divine Providence" by Jean-Pierre de Caussade, "The Practice of the Presence of God" by Brother Lawrence and, for those who want to experience God's holiness in a powerful way, "The Holiness of God" by R.C. The Pursuit of God - made easier to know and practice.

Didn't realize that when they called this book a classic they really meant it. Many ideas and also clear direction to a more full walk with God (which, I think, is what we all really want). For the believer, God's "distance" is never the issue. It is only that we are to tune in to Him and the reassurance of His already immediate presence is known and felt by us. The idea of God's Throne in one's life (and there is room only for One on the throne at any time) is simplified. Yes, we want to walk with God. But remember it is He who reaches out to us before we can know Him in the first place. No wonder this book is so highly regarded.
